Lake Washington School District named a National Board Accomplished District
One of 81 accomplished districts nationwide
Redmond, Wash. – Lake Washington School District (LWSD) has been named a National Board Accomplished District by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). NBPTS announced their new “National Board Accomplished Districts” program in late September. It is designed to recognize school districts that have worked hard to promote student learning through accomplished teaching.
The National Board Accomplished Districts program is initially honoring 81 districts in which at least 20% of its teachers have achieved National Board certification, encouraging teachers to be their best and effectively driving student learning.
LWSD has supported teachers in achieving their National Board Certification for the past 16 years. According to NBPTS, as of December 2018, 336 teachers working in LWSD have earned their certification. National Board certification is considered the highest professional credential a teacher can obtain.
“Lake Washington School District is proud to be among the top districts nationwide being recognized as National Board Accomplished Districts,” stated Dr. Jane Stavem, LWSD Superintendent. “We know that teachers drive student learning. One of the ways we work to assure students have access to the best teachers is to encourage teachers to become National Board certified. These teachers clearly teach to high standards and reflect on their practice to get better every day.”
